Europe Alive Guidelines

AIMS

1. Promotion

To promote and facilitate exchange visits between EUW members in accordance with the proposed addition to Article III of the EUW Constitution:

“It is a special responsibility of the Union to establish and increase contacts between women of the free European nations.”

Particularly envisaged are those members who do not have opportunity for contacts abroad through EUW international work. Europe Alive exchanges, with good publicity, may help sections to increase their number of members.

2. Multinational and reciprocal

The ultimate aim is that exchanges shall be multi-national; however, a first experience between two countries only may be useful. Essentially, projects shall be reciprocal; visitors this time, hostesses next time.

3. Programme and participants

As politically interested and politically committed people, members will want to concentrate on visits of civic, industrial and social welfare interests*, to acquire ne knowledge as visitors and to share from their own experience when hostesses. Participation is basic to the Europe Alive idea: the visitors share fully in both planning and realisation.

* Amended to 1/3 political, 1/3 civic 1/3 personal hospitality.

ORGANISATION

1. The initiative

A would-be hostess group may invite members from countries of their choice or a would-be visitor group may make a request. Either may be made to the Europe Alive representative of each country concerned or through personal contact.

Whichever method is adopted the Europe Alive representative (hostess and visitor sections) shall be informed and approval of the Section Executive Committee shall be assured.

2. Languages

While a knowledge of languages is invaluable, much can be achieved with little or on-sided knowledge when interpreters are made available; it is therefore important that the need and the possibilities should be agree at the outset.

3. Finance

Expenses on both sides shall be kept to a minimum, to enable as many as possible - including younger members – to take part in Europe Alive exchanges.

4. Reports

Hostess and visiting groups shall submit a short report, with programme, to their Europe Alive representative as soon as possible after a project. Representatives shall inform their Execute Committee and the international chairman of their section’s activity in this field.

5. Meeting of Europe Alive representatives

Representatives shall be invited to meet at the EUW International Council Meetings and the General Assemblies, to report experiences and future promotion.

6. International chairmanship

International chairmanship will rotate every 6 years to give continuity to Europe Alive.
