Dear All,

Greenland travel update:

1) The hotel in Copenhagen is Absalon Hotel, Helgolandsgade 15, 1653 Copenhagen V.

It is only 200 m. from the Hovedbanegaarden. By arrival in Kastrup Airport go to the end of the arrival hall, buy a ticket in the DSB office and take the train to Copenhagen from track 2 and by arrival to Copenhagen Hovedbanegaard go left , down the stairs, cross the street and 200 m down of Istedgade to the corner of Helgolandsgade, where Absalon Hotel is located. Otherwise you can take a taxi to the hotel. I will arrive there in the afternoon.

The price for the hotel is higher than I wrote in the beginning. It was not possible to find a hotel in this very central surrounding to a cheaper price. The price for a single room is D.Kr.730,00 and for a double room D Kr. 860,00 per night.

If some of you want to eat together in the evening the on the 2rd of April I will find a little restaurant close to the hotel or on the hotel.

2 )  We have to check in 2 hours before departure in Kastrup Airport. The flight departure is 9.15 . Therefore, we have to leave the hotel no later than 6.45 if we are going by taxi. Some of you perhaps prefer to go by train and then you have to take the train 6.39 or 6.51 or 6.59 with arrival 16 minutes later in the airport. Then you have to go from hall 3 to hall 2 and find the check-in desk of Air Greenland. The price for a ticket to and from the airport is DKK 30,00. As you perhaps have to go more times by train or bus you can bye a yellow cut card to DKK 165,00. And you have to cut 1 time for each person who use it. There are 10 cuts on a card.

There are a lot of very nice shops in the airport, where you can buy everything. You can also buy when you arrive in Denmark again. You can buy something on the flight, too. In Kangerlussuaq there is a tax-free shop just before you leave the airport. If you prefer to have some wine, alcohol, beer, soft drinks, sweets and tobacco it is very expensive in Greenland. Buy it in Kangerlussuaq before you go through the douane. Remember that you arrive in a non EU-country and that you can buy tobacco and alcohol much cheaper.

On the flight you will have a nice hot meal, wine, soft drinks, water, coffee and a drink. It is a very nice flight and I hope the weather will be fine. We are flying over the Danish coasts, to Norway, Stavanger, Kamøye, to The Sheltland Islands, The Farøyo Islands, Iceland and at least to the east coast of Greenland. It is a wonderful trip when we arrive at Greenland, look at the icecaps the next 800-900 km which take an hour. At least , the beautiful  in flight to Kangerlussuaq where we have the opportunity to look at the moscus oxes, down on the earth. I hope that those who are sitting close to the windows let them who are sitting in another place in the flight look for some moments at these very beautiful areas down us.

After arrival there will be bus transfer to the Old Camp.

3) The program at Greenland

Looking at Moscus oxes - I think from Tacan or Black Ridge, where we have a beautiful view to the ice car, and far away.

Sightseeing in Kangerlussuaq with guide

Trip to the ice cap, 40 km. from Kangerlussuaq, where you can walk on the ice cap.

Dog sleighding on Lake Ferguson or at the see

I have been writing to the Church to hear if the church service is open on Sunday April 6th.

If it is possible, we will try to get a politician from Demokraterne (the Conservatives in Greenland) (there is election April the 8th and as he has to take a flight from the capital Nuuk or Sisimiut,  it is perhaps not possible, but the Danish Conservatives will help asking them).

We are having breakfast at Old Camp every morning, get a lunch-back and in the evening we are eating at Roklubben. Roklubben is a nice restaurant which is 5 km. outside Kangerlussuaq lying next to the beautiful Lake Ferguson. This lake is the lake where Kangerlussuaq gets all its drinking water from. Perhaps we will have the well known Greenland Buffet Sunday evening with all sorts of specialities from Greenland.

You can go on the internet and read about Kangerlussuaq and Greenland

The weather in beginning of April is rather cold, normally. But the sun shines normally every day.

You need to bring warm clothes, boots -not with high heals and practically clothes only.

I am looking forward to seeing you all in Copenhagen before the departure.

If you have some questions, please write me.

With love from

Birte Iversen
